The Mercedes Academy Problem

Mercedes have hit a awkward problem. It seems their drivers in their driver academy right now cannot find a seat In formula one.

Mercedes, they can be blamed, they don’t try enough almost, it’s a repetitive cycle for them

Esteban Ocon, he seems to be one of the biggest talents on the formula 1 field. But right now, he hasn’t got a seat in formula one in 2019. It is not his own fault, it’s unknown whether he has a seat, but right now his options are closing. With Christian Horner coming out and saying they won’t sign Ocon, what is it about the Mercedes ties that cause the problem.

Ocon has the Mercedes ties mainly because he could not fund his own career at the time, they took him from the Infiniti programme which he was dropped from after their problems in the academy. If you don’t know the story of Ocon go and listen to beyond the grid, like right now! But they came in and took Ocon and helped him fund his career.

Mercedes, did the same with Wehrlein, they helped him fund his career. It just seems to have not worked for them because both Wehrlein and Ocon May find it have found themselves out of F1. Both have a crazy amount of talent within them.

So why is Ocon not being signed? Well to start off with there is still a chance he will be at Force India, don’t rule them out yet. Ocon’s relationship with Lance Stroll might be the reason for him keeping the seat but we don’t know yet? But Ocon’s options are limited due to the fact he is a Mercedes junior and could be called to the Mercedes factory team at anytime, whether it’s this year, or in three years time. That isn’t a sacrifice teams want to make.

It seems there is a running theme with the Mercedes juniors, they come into F1 with lots of talent and get moved aside for someone else. It’s almost unfair, and not their fault.

Look at George Russell, it looks like he’s on his way to the formula 2 title, but will he race in F1 next year. It is unlikely because of his Mercedes ties which have helped him get through the junior series. As without his Mercedes backing he might still be stuck in F3, as he started to give up on his dream of F1 only two years ago. But now, it seems he is the best British junior driver, his championship rival however has bagged himself a seat. It only seems to be a repeat of Pierre Gasly in 2016 and Esteban Ocon in 2015. But if Ocon is to not find a seat it is certain Russell will not as he is next in line to Ocon.

The stories of the three Mercedes junior boys are all brilliant they all struggled for backing, and Mercedes allowed them to show their true talent. But it’s now the things stopping them.

It’s an odd one really. There are two Mercedes customer teams but it seems one of them, trundling at the back of the grid, only want drivers who will pay. Force India, the son is of course going to get a seat and who will his teammate that does determine whether Russell gets the chance to try for an F1 seat this year.

Why is it the Mercedes team are the only ones not being given chances at other teams. It’s hard to answer it really is. But if a better team that Red Bull came knocking on Max “the best thing since sliced bread” Verstappen, he would go. So why do these young drivers not get that chance to prove themselves somewhere else. Because the other teams are stubborn, they want the best talent and unfortunately but fortunately for Mercedes they have some of the best up coming talent, certainly in Ocon and Russell.

Now, the Mercedes junior programme seems to have gone to ruins as they can’t find their junior drivers a seat. Mercedes, they can be blamed, they don’t try enough almost, it’s a repetitive cycle for them. The quotes that come out all lie along the same lines of why they can’t get there drivers a drive or how they are trying.

But a lot of these formula 1 teams are blinded by money and other things. Red bull, they are just blind. They are desperate for drivers because they haven’t got any right now, but will over look Ocon and supreme driver better than both their current drivers. To over look a driver just because of his junior team, it’s stupid.

But it’s F1, it’s upsetting but Mercedes, maybe they need a B team. Then they will be solid and have a place for those talents coming up.
